GENDER PAY GAP REPORTING

We are confident within our business that we exercise equal pay, however we do currently have a gender pay gap. The main reason for the gender pay gap is that; we have fewer women in our Senior Leadership Team and in our management roles. We will continue to work to narrow our gender pay gap and have already put measures in place to do this. - Matt Powell, Finance Director

Hickory’s Smokehouse Modern Slavery Statement 2023/2024

Our Commitment

At Hickory's Smokehouse we are committed to acting in an ethical and sustainable way. We are alert to the risk of modern slavery and human trafficking and are doing what we can to ensure it is eliminated from our supply chains or in any part of our business.

Our Business

Hickory’s Smokehouse brings good old fashioned southern hospitality to over 20 locations in the UK, directly employing over 2000 team members. Our journey started in Chester, a year to the day after the first road trip across the American southern states, with our first restaurant Hickory’s Smokehouse Chester opening in 2010. You will also find our Head Office in Chester.

All our restaurants are operated by Hickory’s Smokehouse and are managed on site by our
own team.

Our Suppliers

At Hickory’s Smokehouse we have a zero tolerance to slavery and human trafficking, and we expect all those in our supply chain and contractors to comply with our values. Our supply chain is diverse, providing products and services via a range of food, drink and non-consumable manufactures and businesses. We have built a great rapport with our suppliers over the years, and always strive for a transparent working relationship which aligns with our company values.

Our Team

All team undertake right-to-work checks and are required to provide a National Insurance number and their own bank account details. Wages and salaries are paid by bank transfer, and we do not allow payment to be made into third-party bank accounts.

We have well-being champions trained in each restaurant, who are there to support anyone who may need help and to identify symptoms when something may be impacting an individual’s ability to perform at work or their well-being outside of work. We also have external support available for the team, as we work with several health and wellbeing charities as well as provide team with an employee assistance programme. We encourage all team to speak up and inform their line manager or the People team if they require help or support, in
which case supportive measures are put in place. We have a Whistleblowing procedure in place for all team, where they can speak up confidentially and report any wrongdoing,
including human rights violations such as modern slavery and human trafficking. Team members who raise any suspicions that modern slavery or human trafficking may be taking place within the company or its supply chain, will be protected under our Whistleblowing
policy.

Our Policies and Training

Our management team are responsible for compliance within their respective departments and in their supplier relationships.
Our company policies, including our Code of Conduct and Ambassadorship, Equality & Diversity and Whistleblowing policies, confirm our zero-tolerance approach to Modern Slavery. There is a company induction for all new team members, where our policies, procedures and expectations are outlined, as well as these resources always being available for the team to access via our online learning platform. Failure to follow our company policies and procedures, may result in disciplinary action which could result in immediate suspension or the termination of employment.

Our Measures

To measure the effectiveness of preventing slavery and human trafficking from taking place in
any part of our business or supply chains, we enforce the following:

  • All our restaurants are operated by the company directly and are managed by our
team, thus ensuring that rigorous employment processes and checks are
    implemented and maintained fully.
  • We commit to monitoring labour and completing thorough right to work documentation
    and payroll audits.
  • Where possible we look to build long term relationships with suppliers which allows us
to make clear our expectations of standards which we expect.
  • Our supply chain providers are mostly always UK providers, and we expect these
entities to have suitable anti-slavery and human trafficking policies and processes in
    place.
  • All team members are required to give online confirmation via our online learning
platform that they have read, understood and comply with all of our company policies
    and procedures.

We will continue to review and improve our practices and measures in the prevention of
modern slavery and human trafficking, and we will continue to review our ethical trading.
