Liverpool is a city built on culture, character & a proper sense of pride. So, we’re bringin’ you a smokehouse to match it, right here in Gateacre.
We are so excited to be heading to Gateacre and we can’t wait to welcome you for smokin’ BBQ, shakin’ drinks & some good old-fashioned Southern hospitality! We’re busy getting to know the area & our new neighbours and we’ve already started bringing your brand-new smokehouse to life.

With the build well underway, we thought it was time to share a little of what you can expect from your new Hickory’s Smokehouse…
If you’ve visited us before, you’ll know we’re a family-friendly restaurant & bar servin' up a menu loaded with authentic smokehouse classics & BBQ favourites, all cooked low ’n’ slow. Hickory’s Gateacre is going to be no different! With a complete refurbishment both inside & out, there will be something for everyone to love & enjoy.
Your New Smokehouse
We take our inspiration from the places we’ve been, with lots of quirky touches & Southern-inspired design ideas to create a place for everyone to enjoy.
We’ve thought about the whole family when designing Hickory’s Gateacre. You’ll find a mix of seating to suit every visit, from cosy spots for smaller groups to larger tables perfect for celebrations & extended family get-togethers. For something a little different, be sure to check out our chef’s bar! Here, you can watch our chefs in action… you may even pick up a Pitmaster tip or two.
Outside, we’re creating a secluded garden inspired by Southern outdoor living - perfect for enjoying the warmer months in comfort & style.
Whether you’re popping in for a quick bite or settlin’ in for a long, laid-back meal, we can’t wait to welcome you to your new local smokehouse, whatever the occasion.
Your Neighbourhood Bar...
You’ll always be welcome to join us just for drinks in the bar. Whether you’re planning on stopping by for after-work beers or pre-dinner cocktails, consider it your new laid-back local hangout.
Our drinks menu is a nod to our Southern roots. From signature cocktails & classic mixes to our impressive selection of craft beers, including our very own Hickory’s Pale Ale, there’s something for everyone. Plus, explore our 25+ bourbon collection, curated over the years from our road trips. There’s something for every taste, whatever you’re sippin’.
Of course, no neighbourhood bar would be complete without the action. Big on sport? So are we. Expect laid-back vibes with plenty of screens, so you don’t miss a goal, try, touchdown or home run.
And, with a summertime opening on the cards, we’re looking forward to a season of slow afternoons, long evenings and a little Southern-style sippin’... ice-cold, easy-going & best shared.
So get ready to pull up a stool, raise a glass & make yourself at home.
Younger Guests are in for a Treat...
Our VIKs really are our most important guests! We keep them entertained with tabletop fun, regular special events and, of course, their very own movie room where they can come & go as they please.
Our kids’ menu has been specially created with a team of mums, dads and kids, so it strikes just the right balance of treats, healthy options and fun. The menu is packed with dishes and drinks for smaller appetites, from pancake stacks and classic mac ’n’ cheese to burgers & popcorn chicken bites. There are also smaller versions of all the shakes.
No visit to Hickory’s is complete without a trip to our Fro-Co creation station. Designed to showcase our one and only frozen custard (that’s Fro-Co in Hickory’s talk), it’s a must-try! And don’t worry, we’ve got grown-up versions too. It really is that good!
If there’s one thing we’re passionate about, it’s doing barbecue the right way.
Authenticity is key for us. Our Southern Pride smokers take pride of place in the heart of the restaurant... they are the best of the best in the BBQ world. Shipped straight from Tennessee & Missouri, our smokers are our pride and joy! We’ll be open and smokin’ 8 days a week…
Our Pitmasters are the real deal. They’re the heart of what we do, lovingly smokin’ to create those perfect smoke rings & that fall-off-the-bone meat. At Hickory’s we say, “Not all heroes wear capes; some wear aprons” - and these BBQ heroes are here to make sure you leave wanting more!

You’ll be able to dig into classics like tender Memphis ribs and juicy 16-hour smoked Texas-style brisket, slow-smoked low ’n’ slow by Gateacre’s very own Pitmaster.
Our appetisers & desserts aren’t to be missed, so make sure you leave room! From brisket popcorn bites & frickles to a Peachy Jam Jar Cheesecake & table-toasted Campfire S’mores, the perfect feast awaits.
Expect authentic flavours that’ll take you on a journey straight to the Southern States.
Take a seat at the bar & explore our extensive spirits collection - we’re especially proud of our bourbon selection. Prefer beer? We’ve got you covered, with easy-drinking session ales including our exclusive Hickory’s Pale Ale, alongside a range of bottled and canned craft beers.
Our bar team love nothing more than shakin’ up a cocktail. Our drinks list is bursting with interesting mixes & classic combos, all inspired by our Southern roots. Be sure to try one of our signature serves.
No booze? No problem. From mocktails & homemade sodas to sweet teas and mega Freakshakes, our talented bar team are ready to shake, pour or mix up the perfect drink for you.
We don’t know about you, but we think the best way to welcome in the weekend is the Hickory’s way. Get ready to enjoy our shakin’ deals, with £6 cocktails, £4 Driftaway IPA, £5 wine and £3 Georgia Sweet Tea. Throw in live music and you’ve got the ultimate Friday night vibe, every Friday from 4pm!
So whether it’s a smooth sip of bourbon, a refreshing beer or a Hickory’s cocktail, there’ll be a seat at the bar with your name on it.
