It's official...Hickory's is heading further north and Gateshead is getting a Smokehouse!
We are so excited to be opening up our second Hickory's Smokehouse in the North East & we can't wait to welcome you for smokin' BBQ, shakin' drinks & some good old fashioned Southern hospitality! We're busy getting to know the area, our new neighbours & of course getting cracking with the build.

As we gear up to bring Southern hospitality further north, you might be wondering what to expect from the North East’s second Hickory’s Smokehouse.
If you've visited Hickory's before, you'll know we’re a family-friendly restaurant & bar serving up a menu loaded with authentic smokehouse classics & BBQ favourites, all cooked low ’n’ slow at the smokehouse. Hickory's Gateshead is going to be no different! With a complete refurbishment both inside & out, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
Your New Smokehouse
We take our inspiration from the places we’ve been to, with lots of quirky touches and Southern inspired design ideas, to create a place for everyone to enjoy.
We’ve thought about the whole family when designing Hickory’s Gateshead. You’ll find a mix of seating to suit every visit, from comfortable seating for smaller groups to larger tables perfect for celebrations & extended family get-togethers. For something a little different, our chef’s bar puts you right in the heart of the action, where you can watch our chefs in action from our cosy booths. You may even pick up a pitmaster tip or two!
Outside, we’re creating a secluded garden inspired by Southern outdoor living, complete with a covered dining terrace - perfect for enjoying the warmer months in comfort & style.
Whether you’ll be popping in for a quick bite or settling in for a long, laid-back meal, we can’t wait to welcome you to your new local Smokehouse, whatever the occasion!
Your Neighbourhood Bar...
You'll always be welcome to join us just for drinks in the bar. Whether you're planning on stopping by for after-work beers or pre-dinner cocktails, consider it your new laid-back local hangout.
Our drinks menu is a nod to our Southern roots. From signature cocktails & classic mixes to our impressive selection of craft beers, including our very own Hickory’s Pale Ale. Plus, our impressive 25+ bourbon collection, that we’ve curated over the years from our roadtrips. There’s something for every taste, whatever you’re sippin’.
Of course, no neighbourhood bar would be complete without the action. Big on sport? So are we. Your new Sportsbook will bring laid back vibes with plenty of screens, close to the bar so you don’t miss a goal, try, touchdown, or home run.
So get ready to pull up a stool, raise a glass & make yourself at home.
Younger Guests are in for a Treat...
Our VIK's really are our most important guests! We keep them entertained with table-top fun, regular special events and of course their very own movie room where they can come and go as they please.
Our kid’s menu has been specially created with a team of mums, dads & kids so it contains just the right balance of treats, healthy options and fun. The menu is packed with dishes & drinks for smaller appetites, from pancake stacks & the classic mac ‘n’ cheese to burgers and popcorn chicken bites. There are also smaller versions of all the shakes.
No visit to Hickory's is complete without a trip to our Fro-Co creation station. Designed to showcase the one & only frozen custard (that’s Fro-Co in Hickory’s talk). Don't worry, we have grown-up versions of the Fro-Co too. It really is that good!
If there’s one thing we’re passionate about, it’s doing barbecue the right way.
Authenticity is key for us. Our Southern Pride smokers take pride of place in the heart of the restaurant - they are the best of the best in the BBQ world. Shipped straight from Tennessee & Missouri, our smokers are our pride and joy! We'll be open & smokin' 8 days week...
Our Pitmasters are the real deal. They're the heart of what we do, lovingly smokin' to create those prestige smoke rings & that fall of the bone meat. At Hickory's we say, "Not all heroes wear capes; some wear aprons" & these BBQ heroes are here to make sure you leave wanting more!
Smokehouse Classics...
You'll be able to dig into classics like tender Memphis ribs & juicy 16 hour smoked Texas-style brisket. That will be slow-smoked, low 'n' slow by Gateshead's very own Pitmaster. Our appetisers & desserts aren’t one to skip out on, so make sure you leave room! From Smoky Bourbon Bacon Bites & Frickles to a Cookie Creation & Table Toasted Campfire Marshmallow, the perfect feast awaits.

Take a seat at the bar & try our extensive spirits collection. We're pretty proud of our Bourbon collection. If beer's more your style, we've got you covered too. With easy-drinking session ales, including our exclusive Hickory's Pale Ale. And, we've got a selection of bottles & canned craft beers, so there really is a beer for everyone.
Our bar team love nothing more than shakin' up a cocktail. Our drinks list will be bursting with interesting mixes & classic combos that are all designed to pay a nod to our southern roots. Be sure to try one of our signature cocktails.
No booze? No problem. From mocktails & homemade sodas to sweet teas & mega Freakshakes, our talented bar team are ready to shake, pour or mix up the perfect drink for you.
We don’t know about you, but we think the best way to welcome in the weekend is the Hickory’s way. Get ready to enjoy our shakin' deals, with £6 cocktails, £4 Driftaway IPA, £5 wine & £3 Georgia Sweet Tea. Throw in live music & you’ve got the ultimate Friday night vibe. Every Friday from 4pm!
